DRIVER CONDITION
A driver's physical, mental and emotional fitness to drive is the
most important element in safe driving. A driver in top physical, mental
and, emotional shape can adjust to all driving conditions and respond
better to most situations.
Alcohol
Alcohol use prior to or during operation of a motor vehicle
is unacceptable. It seriously limits the driver's reaction times.
Drugs
Drugs may impair driving ability, increase reaction time or
even cause hallucinations. Although it is obvious that illegal
substances should never be used, always consult with a medical
professional regarding driving on a specific prescription.
Fatigue
Always consider your fatigue factor when driving. Alternate
drivers whenever possible or take a break. Stretching, taking
a brisk walk or taking a nap may help to reduce fatigue.
Attitude
Drivers, who are in a hurry and/or become frustrated and angry, are
more likely to be involved in a roadway incident. They are more likely
to display the following behaviors:

- Speeding.
- Not thoroughly checking for oncoming traffic at intersections.
- Missing important roadway signs.
- Running yellow/red lights.
- Driving recklessly.
- Passing in a no-pass zone.
- Being intolerant of other drivers ("road rage").
