Passing or being passed, should never be taken casually.
At the moment of passing, the passing vehicle and the one being passed
are very close to each other and generally moving at a high rate of
speed.
There are several things you can do to avoid an accident:
When you are passing:
- Always be aware of oncoming traffic;
- Never pass when your lane has a solid yellow centerline;
- Check your mirrors and blind spots before you pass;
- Always complete your pass before you reach a double yellow
centerline.
When you are being passed:
- Help the other driver pass you;
- Slow down to let the passing vehicle into your lane;
- Leave adequate space between you and the vehicle ahead. Allow
room for the passing car to merge into your lane;
- Use caution when making a right turn, a vehicle could be passing
on your right.
