Driving Safety - Lesson 9a

MANEUVERING UNDER VARIOUS SITUATIONS, CONTINUED

Oncoming Traffic - Stay Alert!

Finding an oncoming vehicle in your lane presents a truly dangerous problem. These situations generally develop under unusual circumstances when the oncoming driver has:side view of a semi truck on the freeway

  • Fallen asleep;
  • Wrongly entered a one-way street;
  • Lost control of his vehicle while passing;
  • Been distracted and begun to drift into your lane;
  • Taken defensive action to avoid a collision.

What To Do:

Be Alert - Look for pedestrians or other vehicles about to enter your lane.

Slow Down - Reducing speed provides you more response time, more distance to work around a situation and in the worst case, reduces the impact force.

Do Not Hesitate - Take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision. If necessary, veer off the road to the right shoulder and give the other motorist your lane.
