Sexual Harassment - Lesson 7

MEETING WITH AN ALLEGED VICTIM

Emphasize to the alleged victim that your position is not one of doubt, belief or judgement. The initial stage of the complaint is not the proper time to form opinions.

  • An employee that has been harassed may display any of the following emotions: meeting
  • Often the alleged victim feels intimidated, traumatized and overwhelmed by the incident.
  • The alleged victim may be unable to openly discuss the situation.
  • If they are vague, ask clarifying questions.
  • Suggest that they describe the most recent behavior. Try to draw them out.
  • They may be seeking consolation and/or justification for not accepting the behavior in question.
  • The alleged victim may request a course of action to personally remedy the situation.
  • There may be a need to "vent" frustrations.
